Installation of Your New Custom Paint Booth

A custom automotive spray booth can help to save you money by increasing efficiency, as well as speeding drying and curing times. Replacing your outmoded custom spray booth with an Accudraft model like the Titan can also help you cut energy costs by up to 30%, thanks to its programmable timer, Energy Saver mode, 80%/20% re-circulating damper, and variable frequency drives.

However, if you are installing a custom spray booth or custom truck spray booth for the first time, or replacing your older model custom paint booth with a new Accudraft model, there are some initial costs associated with installation of which you should be aware before investing. Once you consider these expenses, you will have an accurate idea not only of your budget, but of the value that an custom auto paint booth or custom truck paint booth from Saima North America will add to your business.

Permits: Because a custom spray booth installation is a construction project, you will need to consult your local city, town, county, or provincial authorities regarding any building permits associated necessary for the installation of your new custom auto paint booth or custom truck paint booth. Some municipalities may ask you to provide stamped drawings. Saima North America can provide you with CAD layouts for your new custom spray booth. However, any building improvements will necessitate a consultation with an architect, and the procurement of separate drawings for structural improvements. Remember that permits, while often a hassle to obtain, are one of the most important factors in the installation process. Without them, your construction project could be shut down midway, costing you thousands of dollars in equipment rental fees, expediting fees, and fines.

Building improvements and structural alterations: The installation of your new custom truck spray booth or custom auto spray booth may necessitate the removal of part of your roof and/or walls, in order to properly accommodate the booth's ventilation systems. Depending on the dimensions of your existing building; its current electrical, fire prevention, and ventilation infrastructure; and the size of the custom spray booth you are considering, installation may require alterations in one or more of the following areas: roofing; roof reinforcement/structural support; walls; floors; electrical; sprinkler/fire suppression systems; ducting and ventilation.

Once you have determined the design and final location of your new custom paint booth, you will need to consider any expenses directly related to the installation process. Your Saima Representative will discuss these costs with you, and inform you which of these costs are already included in your installation package.

Unloading and erection costs: Forklifts for moving large and heavy crates are a must at any erection site. During the assembly process, other heavy equipment such as cranes and skyjacks may be necessary, especially during the installation of custom truck paint booth roofing and rooftop ductwork. Also, pit excavation will be necessary to install the floor of the paint booth. If you have chosen to accessorize your custom paint booth with a prep station, and you have decided to include bays, you will need additional pit excavation services. Ductwork may not be included in installation costs - ask your Saima North America Rep for details - so the proper ductwork may need to be purchased separately.

Flooring: Epoxy flooring, tile flooring, or sealed concrete are all acceptable options for flooring inside your custom truck spray booth. If you are installing a custom paint booth for the first time, you will need to consider flooring costs, as pit excavation will necessitate replacing at least part of your existing flooring. If you are replacing your existing automotive paint booth, you may find it necessary to replace some or all of your current flooring, due to discrepancies in size between your old booth and your new custom paint booth. While preparing your budget, it is wise to allocate some monies to flooring costs even if you are not planning to replace your current flooring.

Fuel and air supply: Although Accudraft custom truck spray booths and custom auto spray booths feature direct-fire heating, you may wish to hook up your custom spray booth to a secondary fuel source, such as oil or natural gas. The equipment for this installation is sold separately. Your Saima North America Rep can provide you with a quote based on the specifications of your custom paint booth. Air supply is necessary not only for ventilation purposes, but to operate paint sprayers and other equipment. You may have to install additional ductwork to create an operable air supply.

Power supply: Does your building have an adequate power supply to accommodate your new custom spray booth? Ask your Saima North America Rep for exact specifications. Custom truck spray booths and large custom spray booths may require a higher electrical output to function than smaller custom paint booths. Also, be sure to check to see if you have three-phase or single-phase power. If you need to make adjustments to your building's power supply, you will have to obtain additional permits, as well as cover electrician fees and materials purchases.

Waste disposal: There will be waste material left over from the installation of your new custom truck paint booth, and you will need to dispose of it properly in accordance with your city, town, county, or provincial disposal codes. Saima North America may be able to assist you with this; ask your Rep for details.

Additional features: When preparing your budget, allowance should be made for additional features. For example, your new custom truck paint booth will certainly add value to your auto body business. But the addition of a dividing door, which can separate the larger bay into two smaller work areas, may increase your output capabilities even more. Other options, such as extra doors and additional lighting features, can also increase the capabilities of your new custom truck paint booth. Smaller custom paint booths may benefit from the addition of such features as drive-through or side-loader bays; additional doors and lighting; roof-mounted mechanicals; observation windows; or lift packages.
